Leading Through Organisational Change

How LeaderShape supported ENGIE's senior leadership team through significant organisational change, helping leaders navigate uncertainty while maintaining engagement and business performance.

ENGIE

Organisational change places significant demands on leaders. During periods of restructuring, uncertainty and transition, leadership behaviours can have a direct impact on employee confidence, engagement and organisational performance.

ENGIE Exploration & Production UK faced a period of major organisational transformation. LeaderShape worked with its senior leadership team to strengthen leadership capability and support individuals through the challenges ahead.

Performance

The Challenge

ENGIE Exploration & Production UK was undergoing substantial organisational change, including restructuring, significant redundancies and the relocation of operations from London to Aberdeen.

With approximately half of the workforce facing redundancy, the organisation needed its senior leaders to remain effective, resilient and engaged while supporting their teams through considerable uncertainty.

The challenge was not simply to manage the practical aspects of change, but to help leaders navigate its emotional and behavioural impact, maintaining trust, communication and performance throughout the transition.

Our Approach

LeaderShape designed a leadership development programme for 32 senior leaders, including the Managing Director, to help them respond constructively to the challenges of organisational change.

The programme combined three half-day leadership masterclasses with ongoing support through ALIVE group calls and individual coaching.

This blended approach provided leaders with opportunities to reflect on their own responses to change, develop practical leadership skills and explore how best to support their teams.

By combining structured development with individual and group support, LeaderShape helped participants build the confidence and capability to lead effectively through uncertainty.

The Results

Despite the scale of organisational change, ENGIE maintained attendance and productivity without significant increases in employee absence.

The programme provided senior leaders with practical support to manage uncertainty, communicate effectively and maintain their focus on business priorities.

The experience demonstrated the value of investing in leadership development during major organisational transitions, particularly when employees are facing difficult decisions and an uncertain future.

The Bigger Picture

Organisational transformation is not simply a structural or operational challenge. It is a leadership and culture challenge. Supporting leaders to navigate uncertainty, communicate openly and maintain engagement can make a meaningful difference to both employee experience and sustainable business performance.
